Corpus linguistics approaches the study of language through corpora – large collections of naturally occurring examples of language. The field is not new, but it has recently gained traction as a tool for statutory interpretation. This panel discussion, featuring a leading practitioner of corpus linguistics, attorney James Heilpern, and a leading scholar of corpus linguistics, Professor Tammy Gales, will introduce corpus linguistics and its potential uses by appellate attorneys.
