Summary

Time, Energy, and Wellbeing: Tools for Sustainable Legal Practice

Presented by the Wellness Section of the San Diego County Bar Association

Learning Objectives:

Attorneys face demanding schedules, high client expectations, and constant deadlines—all of which can contribute to chronic stress, burnout, and decreased professional performance. This program is designed to help legal professionals maintain their ability to competently practice law by addressing the critical intersection between time management, mental wellness, and professional responsibility.

Led by attorney and certified coach Megan Moore and attorney Koryn Sheppard, this interactive session offers practical tools for managing time and energy in ways that reduce stress and support long-term mental, emotional, and physical competence. Through guided reflection and skills training, participants will explore how personal values, mindfulness, and focused work habits can enhance not only their productivity but their overall ability to practice law safely and effectively.

Participants will:

  • Understand how stress, burnout, and poor time management can impair professional competence;

  • Learn strategies to maintain mental clarity and emotional resilience in high-pressure legal environments;

  • Explore how aligning work with personal values can reduce anxiety and increase job satisfaction;

  • Identify tools to reduce distractions and improve decision-making;

  • Leave the session with a commitment to implement at least one specific strategy that supports wellness and competence in their legal practice.
