Eliminating Bias Through Understanding Cognitive Distortions
Learning Objectives:
Cognitive distortions, our mind’s automatic shortcuts, can subtly shape how we interpret people and situations. In legal practice, these thinking patterns can unintentionally fuel implicit or even explicit bias, influencing how we interact with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, judges, and juries.
This elimination of bias program offers a thoughtful and practical look at how these mental habits form, how they show up in our daily work, and how they can affect fairness, equity, and access to justice—especially for individuals from marginalized or underrepresented communities. Participants will learn how to recognize common cognitive distortions and interrupt their impact, gaining tools to support more objective decision-making and more inclusive, equitable legal practices.
