SDCBA Sections

The SDCBA’s various communities, including Sections, are the lifeblood of the organization. The SDCBA currently has 27 Sections by practice area which produce a variety of educational programming, networking, community service, meet-ups, mentoring, and other activities to connect and engage members of each Section.

Programs & Events: Review and Approval Process

QUARTERLY SUBMISSION: Proposed activities by each Section will be submitted by the Section's Executive Committee for review and approval on a quarterly schedule.

SUBMISSION FORM: Please submit your proposed activities per quarter with a minimum 5 week lead time in advance to the requested date. *All required information must be submitted for the proposed date to be held.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

The purpose of the SDCBA ADR section is to meet the professional needs of San Diego lawyers and advance the administration of justice through ADR means.

Animal Law

The Animal Law Section addresses legislation and legal matters pertaining to the rights and welfare of animals in an effort to educate the public, law enforcement, and legal community.

Appellate Practice

This group shall be concerned with matters relating to and practice before state and federal appellate courts and the Appellate Divisions of the Superior Courts, including legislation, rules of practice and procedure, and conduct before the court.

Bankruptcy

This Section addresses matters of interest in the area of bankruptcy. Our members are served through CLEs and by access to the listserve where they can solicit information from other members. Any law student or lawyer with an interest in Bankruptcy Law is welcome.

Business & Corporate

The Business & Corporate Law Section specializes in serving business and corporate law attorneys. We address a wide range of issues involving business and corporate law that are of interest to both audiences.

Civil Litigation

The Civil Litigation Law Section addresses matters of interest in the general practice of civil litigation, including procedural and substantive issues.

Construction Law

The Construction Law Section addresses matters of interest in the area of construction law, including contract law and construction defect litigation.

Criminal Law

The Criminal Law Section’s statement of purpose is to connect criminal justice lawyers and ensure a commitment to equal justice under the law.

Elder Law

The Elder Law Section addresses matters of interest in the area of elder law.

Entertainment & Sports

Addresses matters of interest in the area of entertainment & sports law.

Environmental

The Environmental Law/Land Use Law Section addresses matters of interest in the areas of the environment land use and real estate law.

Estate Planning

The Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section addresses matters of interest in the areas of estate planning, trusts and probate law.

Family Law

The Family Law Section addresses matters of interest in the area of family law.

Government

This section endeavors to promote discourse, collaboration and education among public and government law attorneys throughout San Diego County.

Immigration

This Section addresses areas of interest in Immigration Law. The Immigration Section provides MCLE trainings, free trainings, and networking opportunities.

Insurance

Addresses matters of interest in the area of Insurance / Bad Faith Law.

Intellectual Property

The International Law Section addresses matters of interest in the area of international law.

Juvenile Law

The Juvenile Law Section of the SDCBA addresses matters of interest that impact children, youth and families..

Labor & Employment

The Labor and Employment Law Section serves the needs of labor and employment law professionals in San Diego County.

Law & Medicine

This Section endeavors to promote discourse, collaboration and education to medical and legal professionals throughout San Diego County.

Military Law

This Section shall establish and maintain a liaison between the Association and the several Judge Advocate offices of the armed forces located in the County of San Diego and the military lawyers assigned thereto.

Privacy & Cybersecurity

This Section's purpose is to increase awareness of cybersecurity and privacy law issues in the San Diego legal community and to provide education and foster a community for lawyers and law students whose practices include or are impacted by cybersecurity or privacy laws and regulations

Real Property

Addresses matters of interest in the area of real property.

Social Security Disability Listserv-Only

How to Use SDCBA Listservs

The SDCBA Section and Committee listservs can only be accessed by SDCBA members. Through the listservs, members can share information with all members of your community. To access the SDCBA's listservs, log in to the SDCBA website and visit the "MySDCBA" page. There you will find a complete list of all of your Sections and Committees and their respective listservs and fileshares. Once inside your listserv, you can post a message online by clicking "New Post." You can also send a message to your listserv through your preferred email application.

As a member of a Section or Committee, you can choose to receive your listserv messages as emails (normal mode), in a daily digest (digest), or on the web only (vacation/web mode), where you can log in and read the listserv messages at any time. To choose your listserv settings, click on "Lists" on the left hand menu of your respective listserv page, and then "Settings."

You can also have emails from bar@sdcba.org automatically moved to specific folders in your email application, rather than having them appear in your inbox. To view a guideline on how to change your SDCBA listserv settings, click here.
